The Ramblers Association now have a greatly improved website which is an exceptional rescource for all walkers, hykers and young families wanting to go for walks with young children. This site lists everything from historical walks to guided walks and really audious walks.

Find A Walk Near Me by Walking Britain is a truly excellent and free resource. Just enter where you are or where you would like to walk - and print out directions. The walks are graded and you can buy a specific map of the area at the same time. These are proper OS maps and weather proofed if required.

I always think of walking as one of the few activities you can do for free - and now you can with this guide!

Walking, Hiking and Outdoor Shops

Brilliant service and knowledgeable staff coupled with good price.

Mountain Warehouse

Great customer service and great products... staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful ....

Good value but their shoes do wear out quite fast.

Crocket Equestrian & Outdoor

3 Old Bridge Rd, Ayr KA8 9SX, UK – 01292 286377

Friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of high quality clothing and goods.

I went in looking for some outdoor work wear and was impressed with their range a quality of clothing. I got everything from boots to hats and after wearing them for a while now they have held up well. I shopped at B&q and other large franchises which are nearby but found that they supply poorer quality products. Crockets does a great job of matchimg quality and price. There is also a large range of equestrian, fishing, hill walking and goods for general outdoor activities.

WalkingWorld.jpg
Another good one. Walkingworld has huge library of guides with a good selection of walks, of varying lengths and grades, pretty well anywhere in the country. The walks come in an excellent format making them very easy to follow, with photographs to illustrate every important decision point and a proper Ordnance Survey map.

A modist annual subscription gives you unlimited access to all the walks. However you can Pay As Go by downloading indiviual walks..

Camping and Caravaning

Ayr Craigie Gardens Caravan Club

Craigie Rd, Ayr KA8 0SS, UK – 01292 264909

Absolutely love this site and the wardens who come to watch over the site to make sure we all have a great time whilst there. Ayr council should keep it there as it helps to bring business into Ayr so much so that my husband and I always make sure we buy whilst there to help the town's economy. Highly recommend this site

Love the site, it's our second home. Wardens are fantastic and the location is perfect. If we could site our caravan here we would in a heartbeat. It's a shame South Ayrshire Council want the land back. This will be a major blow to the regulars who enjoy this site and even more so to the local economy that will be missing out on the extra income that we bring.

Crofthead

Crofthead Caravan Park, Ayr KA6 6EN, UK – 01292 263516

Got back home from Crofthead holiday park yesterday and we wish we could of stayed longer. Excellent accommodation, them lodges have everything you need and are well designed. The staff on the park were very friendly especially Lewis who was always very busy but still made an effort to talk. It was great for us all to get into the hot tub after days out walking and seeing various places like Culzean Castle which is only 30 mins drive away from the park as is heads of Ayr Farm Park which is great for kids, we're you can feed animals yourself. The beach was nice too so we'll definitely be looking to come back here at some point next year.

What a gem of a holiday park, quiet and friendly. 10/10..
